Our very own Diane Elliott was recently featured in an article on The Big Smoke.
TBS spoke with the Queen of QueenBEE Secrets, Diane Elliott, to discuss how the innovation she strove toward has manifested into results.
TBS: Please tell us what you have created.
DE: Royal Jelly Balms were created on a farm some eight years ago now. I combined my knowledge of aromatherapy with natural ingredients from on farm bee hives and came up with QueenBEE Secrets. It is a product to assist a person with skin problems that is safe and easy to use.
What is the one thing you have done so far that you are most proud of?
I guess I have done much in my 65 years, including several businesses, but this one would have to be the most rewarding as the results from my products speak volumes and it’s humbling to see how it helps so many others. On a personal note, I guess speaking at a large conference some 25 years ago and putting a nomination forward to Medicare to cover Port wine stains as a deductible claim and being successful to that end gave me great personal satisfaction.
Describe the ebb and flow of your career thus far.
There have been many ebbs and flows, with still more to come I am sure. It comes with the territory. After enduring the poorer times, it is exciting to then see your dream live. We have recently had our first international shop open in Taiwan and that was definitely a dream a few years back.
What do you think is the most misunderstood thing about being an innovator?
The most misunderstood thing about being innovative is perhaps others see you as gung-ho and out-there, or perhaps we’re derided as dreamers. But nothing is ever achieved without dreamers.
What advice would you give to people trying to innovate in their field?
Any advice I could give is to have perseverance, but keep the integrity and love for what you do. If you believe in it, it will become obvious to others that you are authentic about your product, and that in itself will take you further than you thought possible.
